The rule

The base — size, crust, sauce, cheese — is charged once. Only the toppings are split. Each half's toppings are totalled separately, then the two totals are consolidated into a single line by one rule of your choosing.

Charge the larger of the two halves.

The classic pizza rule. A customer who asks for pepperoni and sausage on one half pays what that half is worth — the plain mushroom half adds nothing. This is what most shops mean when they say "half and half".

Splits the difference. Shops that feel the higher-half rule overcharges a light second half tend to land here.

Each half is priced independently, as though you had ordered two pizzas and kept one side of each. Shops with expensive toppings and thin margins choose this.

Which rule applies is resolved per shop from pizza.builder.half_and_half_rule. Change it and the register, the phone console, the kiosk and online ordering all price the same way on the next order — because they are all reading the same rule, not four copies of it.

The base is charged once

A bad value cannot mis-price a pizza

An unrecognised policy value falls back to the higher-half rule rather than zeroing the toppings out. A typo in a setting must never hand away food.

It reads as one line on the ticket

The two halves consolidate into a single topping line, so the make line, the receipt and the customer all see the same thing.
